Victorian Gold Etruscan Revival Earrings
Stunning 14ct Victorian Gold Etruscan Revival Earrings decorated with a pierced Greek Key design and intricate granulation. These are really gorgeous antique earrings. Wire hooks may be a later replacement.
Using an unusual combination of yellow and grey/white gold these are a rare pair of earrings. Greyish white gold is less common than rose and the alloy uses silver, palladium or iron for the colour, compared to rose gold, where copper is used for the colour.
Excavations during the 19th century revealed the great Etruscan necropolises, which contained beautiful items for the afterlife - including intricately wrought gold jewellery ornamented with tiny gold beads, filigree work and gems.
